Apple is apparently transitioning from automobiles to… robots? After abandoning its electric car project in February, the iPhone manufacturer is now considering personal robots that may follow you around your house, according to Bloomberg.
The initiative is allegedly in its early phases, and it’s unclear whether the items will ever be produced. But now that Apple has thrown off its decade-long project to produce an electric automobile, house robots might be the company’s “next big thing,” according to sources familiar with the situation.
In recent years, the digital behemoth has been looking for new methods to generate cash, particularly as users cling onto their phones longer. It has expanded into services that require a subscription such as Apple TV Plus and Apple Music, as well as produced wholly new devices such as the Apple Vision Pro, which, at $3,500 and with little to offer out of the box, will most certainly take years to gain widespread adoption.

However, home robots might provide the corporation with a new opportunity to use artificial intelligence and get a foothold in the homes of individuals, according to Bloomberg. In addition to a mobile robot, Apple has also built “an advanced table-top home device that uses robotics to move a display around,” according to the website. Based to the story, the computerised display is more advanced than the mobile robot’s development and “has been added and removed from the company’s product road map over the years,” as officials have differed on whether to move forward with the product at all.
While Apple has been hesitant to implement AI in its goods and services, it might use any improvements in that area to strengthen its rumoured robotics capabilities. If the business does eventually release a house bot, it will join the ranks of Amazon’s $1,600 Astro robot, which can deliver food, police your home, and follow you about while you are on a video conference.
According to Bloomberg, Apple has also proposed using the robot as a self-navigating videoconferencing tool, as well as having it perform tasks such as dishwashing.
